Neighbors,
We need to talk about what is actually happening to our community. The ideas from Indianapolis might sound good at first, but here in District 75, they are hurting our family budgets every month. I want to explain how recent state laws are adding to your daily costs, and what we can do to fix it together.
Our current representative advanced from the primary uncontested. When there is no debate, we lose our voice.
In 2025, Representative Cindy Ledbetter voted YES on Senate Enrolled Act 1. This bill changed how funds are distributed, causing local towns to raise your basic service fees. If you've noticed your payments to the local sewer utility keep going up, it's not a mistake. These are hidden fees created in Indianapolis and enabled by this vote.
The YES vote on SEA 1 didn't just raise service fees; it also changed property taxes. The bill gave large companies a permanent tax break while passing the cost onto local homeowners and small businesses. This makes it harder for families to afford homes or start businesses in our community.
While utility companies were allowed an $80 million revenue increase, our representative supported a bill (HB 1276) that reduced state oversight of these companies. The non-partisan Citizens Action Coalition (CAC) gave her a low 33% Pro-Consumer rating. I will push for independent, open reviews of these companies before they are allowed to raise your rates.
When out-of-state energy companies want to build pipelines across District 75, they sometimes force people to sell their land. Our representative voted YES on SB 373, a bill that gave these private companies more power to do this. I believe in protecting your property rights and keeping your land in your hands.
Representative Ledbetter is on the House Committee on Insurance and Public Health, yet healthcare costs in our area keep going up. We need clear laws that require hospitals to show you the upfront cash price for standard procedures. You shouldn't be surprised by hidden medical bills.
It is time to make sure our community has a clear choice. I am Mason Barclay, and I am running to make sure our families are heard and supported.
